Frank Arts in Six Questions

Over the past twenty years, Argowil has evolved into a company with a seventy-strong workforce, an extensive network of loyal customers, and a production area measuring 2,000 square meters. What's the secret behind this growth?

“We think ahead. Everything we do revolves around our customers and their needs and requirements. We've become a local player in the market, with a strong focus on the concept of Total Cost of Ownership. We've channeled this concept to achieve fast deliveries times, hold stocks for customers, and supply directly to our customers’ place of production if needed. Besides that, we state clearly that our cost price for certain large-volume projects can't compete with companies based in low-wage countries.”

Why did Argowil decide to work with a management team? And what effects did this have?

“Having invested in systems, machines, and buildings, it was important to start investing in good, well-qualified people. This led to the formation of Argowil's management team. Some of my tasks are now the responsibility of specialists, who will bring the company forward. After a period of acclimatization, the results begin to show. I’m very happy that we established a management team, as it means Argowil is ready to take on future challenges.”

What is the biggest challenge you face as a director? And what is the biggest challenge for Argowil?

“My biggest challenge is to ensure continuity at Argowil. I feel responsible for making sure that my people continue to have work. Our day-to-day activities focus on this point, but we need growth to guarantee it.”

What is the most important trend within your branch? And how are you tapping into it?

“Over the past couple of years we've seen more work returning to the Netherlands from low-wage countries, a development known as ‘reshoring’. Volume, communication, and quick delivery times have driven this change, which we've tapped into by offering a more comprehensive set of services. EPLAN enables us to supply a set of drawings for the cable harnesses, so that we can offer our customers an extensive service.”

How do you ensure a healthy work-life balance?

“My work is also my hobby – it energizes me instead of stressing me out. I have lots of energy left for my family and free time, which gives me that good work-life balance. I think balance is the key to success.”

Who would you like to sit next to on a long-haul flight and why?

“It's hard to pick out one person, because there are so many interesting people you could talk with. But if I had to choose, I'd want to sit next to one of our political leaders. After all, they also want to achieve their goals, but need to be very patient. I think it'd be great to learn more about this.”
